When I set my recent New Year challenge, a writer called Joy Lennick contacted me and sent me some of her wonderful poems. They weren’t on the subject of the challenge, but she wondered if I’d like to feature them on my blog. Of course I would! Enjoy 🙂
BREAKING THE SAMENESS
She knew she shouldn’t be there…
He – eyes like a Spanish summer sky –
ravished her with an
avalanche look
she would remember for ever.
The Jacob’s coat he wore,
pungent aroma of white spirit;
alien glances of Bohemian friends…
brushes, assorted,
laid in an orderly row –
like hairy soldiers waiting to
go on duty –
intruded on the dusting,
the washing-up,
the ironing.
Perhaps those eyes
would ravish her again
tonight….
She smiled and basted the
lamb.

FAT LADY FROM CHEAM
There was a fat lady from Cheam
who dreamt a ‘chocolate cream’ dream.
Then, with calories loaded,
she simply exploded,
and never again was she seen.
***
THIN LADY FROM CHEAM
There was a thin lady from Cheam
who wrote much graffiti, obscene…
She was caught in the act,
with her tools all intact,
and was told quite severely, ‘Now clean!’

THE BEST PILL OF ALL
A course of drugs?
A placebo, maybe?
Or just a funny rhyme?
On consideration and rumination,
the latter will be just fine.
