I Challenge You To…

This week’s challenge is to write a story, limerick or poem on the subject of:

Last week’s challenge was to write about ballet. You sent in some very entertaining pieces. Here are a few:

Keith Channing‘s limerick is utterly brilliant:

You can ask any social historian
(Except, perhaps, a Singaporean)
Be he lord, squire or valet,
He’ll tell you that ballet
Is his favourite art terpsichorean.

Kevin brings humour:

There was a young lady called Fay.
We met while at the ballet.
Walking back through the park
In the sweet scented dark
We didn’t discuss the ballet.

Martin Strike wasn’t content with just one and sent in all these hilarious limericks:

One night on the boards in Swan Lake
I made the most dreadful mistake
I should not have, by rights
Stuffed cheese balls down my tights
And made every Grande Jeté ache.

Now ballet, and I’m sure I have backers
Is an interminable pain in the knackers
Since time in memoriam
We’ve found things terpsichorean
A right box of Jacobs cream crackers.

My washing-up skills were under suspicion
To correct this I soon made my mission
I swapped gloves made of rubber
For a titanium pan scrubber
Stubborn stains now go like a magician.

It’s high time that I stopped trying to pester
The blog that we all love from Esther
And stick to the wheeze
Of describing great cheese
From Caerphilly right through to Red Leicester.

Why have ballet, cheese (and washing up) when you can have both (all three).

  1. When my daughter came home with her beau
He asked, “Have you any gâteau?”
    I said, “We ain’t posh
And we don’t have much dosh.
You could even say we knead the dough.”

There was a young man called Blake
Who was extremely fond of cake.
He went out on a date
    With a girl named Kate,
Who went and ate all the cake!

There was a young lady named Leigh
Who invited me round for tea.
    We ate lots of cake
But when I tried to partake
She kicked me out at three!

Just seen this old challenge and fancied writing a limerick….

After yoga a student did ache.
Her remedy was to eat cake.
    Her stomach did bloat,
So it was easy to float
But alas foiled her goal to awake!
